Lucky Dube

Lucky Dube was born Lucky Phillip Dube in Mpumalanga, South Africa. At the age of 18 he joined a group called the, "Love Brothers." Their focus was on Zulu music. Soon afterward he discovered the Rastafarian Movement an incorporated Reggae Music in his musical style. With his heroes being Jimmy Cliff, and Bob Marley (to name a few) he flourished in the Reggae World.
Many Jamaicans join in the mourning of this very talented Jamaican Artist.

"Dube was a humble giant who had represented his native South Africa and the continent with distinction," JSAFA president Dr Hopeton Dunn said in a statement at the weekend in which he also expressed shock and sadness at the singer's murder.

Lucky Dube was shot dead last Thursday in a hijacking in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, South Africa. The Independent online reported Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht as saying the incident took place at around 8:20 pm when Dube, driving a blue Polo, was dropping off his son in the area.
"His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help," the Independent online said.

The JSAFA statement pointed to Lucky Dube's affinity to Jamaican music and the uncanny resemblance of his vocal styling to the Jamaican legend, Peter Tosh.
"It was only this year that a JSAFA delegation, which included the president of the association, had met with Dube while he was in the island to perform at the opening ceremony for Cricket World Cup 2007," the JSAFA statement said.
