Controversy over the Patois Bible

http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20080619/news/images/Layout1_1_PV6RSTheBibleAM.jpg

Well, only 4 months left for the debut of , "the Book of Luke" one of the first books projected for the first ever Patois bible. Bible Society of the West Indies is slated to publish a patois version of the Bible, that will cost $60 million and take 12 years to complete.

I just want to say $60 million dollars is a lot to invest on a 12 year venture for a bible that is supposedly to be more understandable for people in Jamaica. The Bible Society is quoted as saying, "We are hoping to complete the New Testament in the next five years, and the Old Testament in another seven years," said Stewart. "In all, we're hoping to take 12 years, and that's being very ambitious."

The project is mainly an audio project in which the spoken word would be produced on compact disks and via the Internet, although some written texts would be made available.

I know there are so many groups that "mock" the patois language , so I think it is so important because this is for some the "word of GOD" that they make sure that the translations are accurate. There is so much controversy in translating European English into Patois I really don't know how they are going to do it, even from and audio perspective.

This should be quite interesting.
