The Casino Debate Continues

Well, the debate over legalized gambling casinos in Jamaica continues. A recent poll conducted by the Gleaner, is showing an eight per cent increase in the number of persons who want the Government to lift the ban on casino gambling.

Reverend Karl Johnson states that the church is still standing its ground on this issue.

I feel since their has been known illegal gambling activity anyway that the government would benefit finacially from this venture. Sadly, with gambling comes other issues though, increase of crime, addiction, alcoholism, ect. The pro side is that it can also give a boost to the unemployment situation.

I think if managed properly it can work. Currently all the popular casinos are geared for the tourist

Popular casinos include:

  • Coral Cliff Hotel (Montego Bay)

  • Hedonism II Resort (Negril)

  • Hedonism III Resort (Ocho Rios)

  • Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort (Montego Bay)

  • The Jamaica Pegasus and Derby Rooms (Kingston)

  • Jungle Negril (Negril)

  • Renaissance Jamaica Grande Resort (Ocho Rios)

  • Terra Nova Hotel, Monte Carlo Gaming (Kingston)

  • Treasure Hunt Ocho Rios (Ocho Rios)
