Smugglers You will get caught

I might be what old people call, "frady", "frady" but so be it. I always thought that no matter what to "stand up" or the right thing in life. If I did something wrong, I just accepted the consequences. I always feel that whatever a man does in the dark, so too shall it come to light.

The customs department commissioner ( Danville Walker), states that Jamaica was being robbed of "hundreds of millions of dollars" because of the smuggling of goods into the country.

He Futher states, "These cigarettes are smuggled into Jamaica; they are not brought in and duty paid on them, and if you can smuggle in a case of cigarette then just think what else can be in that case," he said.

According to Walker, the sooner the supply chain was cut off the better since the fear was that arms and drugs can be smuggled into the country using the same tactics.

Smuggling is not anything new in Jamaica. It has been going on for eons, but the government seems to be actively taking a stance on it. I really don't think anything can be done. It the immigration people would stop taking "bribes" then maybe something would be done, but grease the palms and everyone turns their head.

Corrupt Customs System Getting Facelift

The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce is putting its full support behind Commisioner of Customs Danville Walker.

"A clear vision and commitment to cleaning up the system are urgently needed," the JCC said in a statement issued yesterday. "Those involved in corruption must be made to suffer the full extent of the law, with no exceptions. This must include the forfeiture of all assets gained through these illegal activities, as provided for by the Proceeds of Crime Act.

For many who have had to go through Jamaica's custom system you know the level of dishonesty that lurks there. Sometimes it is not what you know but "who" you know that can get you by. This holds true for the customs office.

"Finance Minister Audley Shaw recently exposed the facts to the nation regarding tax compliance. The JCC agrees that tax compliance must improve and, to this end, insists that the new commissioner of customs be given the necessary resources, independence and priority to enact changes in the customs system, which will yield positive results for the nation's treasury and serve as a starting point in collecting outstanding taxes," the group said.

I hope something gets down, because down the line this will hurt the tourist industry.

Customs Broker Who Commited Faud Gets Sentenced

A woman who claimed to be a licensed customs broker and who fleeced several persons of more than $1 million to import vehicles was convicted on Friday.

Anne Marie Morgan of Union Gardens, Kingston 13 was convicted on four counts of obtaining money
The police had little difficulty in locating Miss Morgan as she was already in custody at the Duhaney Park Police Station facing similar charges.

I don't want to talk too negative about the customs brokers, but there are so many that are crooked. The main ones are at the airport. If you don't wan't anything stolen from your luggage, then simply have it shipped to the person beforehand. The less you travel with, the better.

CE Deports Gang Member Back To Jamaica

31 Year old Jamaican National and Gang Member Raymond Jackson also known as," Renard Harrison," was deported back to Jamaica yesterday by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers. (USICE).
Apparently he had previously entered the United States (Florida) on April 26, 2006. He was ordered removed in May, 2006. He illegally reentered the country Jan 2007 and then as a suspect in a murder investigation (the charges were dropped) was charged with a violation reentry.



Jackson, who ICE officials say is a top lieutenant of the Clansman gang, was recently deported again. He was transferred into the custody of Jamaican authorities upon his arrival in Jamaica.

I don't know why anyone comes into the United States and forget if they commit a crime they are then going to end up back in Jamaica (or whatever country) if they are not a citizen of that country. It is just a "DUH" factor.
