Are Artist influencing the Children with Bad Lyrics?

I know we have a lot of artist out there who don't really care about the contents of their songs, but rather the amount of money they can accumulate. I am wondering though if they would allow their own kids to sing some of the songs they record. According to an article in the star, one such artist, Elephant man does recognize the influence he has over the children.

Slang specialist' Elephant Man said he is aware that he influences children with the many slangs that he has created and made popular.

"Anything weh mi seh de kids dem go wid it. Di kids are one of di first set that hang on to it (slangs). When yuh hear di kids with it, yuh know seh de slang shot," Elephant Man told THE STAR.

Children are often heard using some of the slangs Ele uses, like 'mucho', 'tranquelo', 'shizzle', 'mi linky' and 'caliente'. However, he maintained that the children used these to greet each other.

In addition, he said slang was very popular in garrison areas.

In Jamaican many children do use the "dancehall" slang in their everyday conversations. I feel however it is just the same as when I was growing up in Jamaica, that we heard the slang, but we knew to speak properly when we were at home (in front of our parents), and also at school.

Paul and Patrick Gaynor, known as the dancehall duo, Twin of Twins were taken into custody yesterday by the Halfway Tree Police. The brothers are accused of taking $50,000 from an upcoming artist, under the guise that they were able to give him the opportunity to travel to the United States of America to perform.

So many entertainers getting caught up in madness, due to being greedy.

Jamaica will not default on Foreign Debt

This announcement was made by Prime Minister Bruce Golding criticized a credit rating downgrade of Jamaica by Standard & Poor's and said on Tuesday there was "no chance" the nation would default on its foreign debt payments.

Golding, speaking to a group of private sector investors, said the rating agency's move, which could drive up the island's borrowing costs, was unwarranted.

"Based on discussions we've had with S&P, it is clear that the primary factor which prompted the downgrade was what the agency referred to as the fear of 'selective default'," Golding said.

Jamaica cannnot afford to default on its debt. Tourism is down, but hopefully with the economy globally taking a turn that Jamaica will see brighter days.

5 Jamaican Athletes Cleared of Charges

Five Jamaican athletes were cleared Monday of doping at their national championships two months ago after the country's anti-doping panel failed to determine whether the banned substance was on the prohibited list.

The athletes reportedly tested positive for the stimulant methylhexanamine. But Kent Gammon, chairman of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission's disciplinary committee, said it was unable to prove they had breached any doping policy.

"Therefore, we have not found any of the athletes in violation of the (anti-doping) code," Gammon said.

The athletes had previously been identified as Yohan Blake, Sheri-Ann Brooks, Allodin Fothergill, Lansford Spence and Marvin Anderson.

What is this " NO Mavado Law?"

Why people a keep up foolishness? You mean to say as much as Jamaica is suppose to be this great place for creativity that you can't listen to whatever music you want without getting beat up?
Acccording to the Jamaican Star, "THE STAR was informed that the householder, a female we will call Milli, was at home listening to a mixed tape featuring both Vybz Kartel and Mavado. It is alleged that she was approached by some supporters of Vybz Kartel, who demanded that she turn down the music because a Mavado selection was being played."

Wha kind a madness is dat? That is like going to church and telling the preacher he can't speak about the book of LUKE today because you only want him to preach bout MARK. Madness...

When THE STAR contacted Vybz Kartel, he dismissed suggestions that his 'followers' were using violence to intimidate others and to dictate who or what they listen to . He said, "No one in my immediate surroundings as it relates to entourage, so to speak, has any desire to dictate what people listen to nor do we care

Plane Crash in Saint Ann

http://www.newprophecy.net/Rock_star_plane_crash.jpg

The Jamaican Observer has reported that, 'A twin engine aircraft, which police believe was on a ganja mission, crashed on the private Windalco bauxite mines road just outside Faith's Pen near the St Ann/St Catherine border yesterday morning killing two people."

First off why are people still trying to do things like back in the early 70's and 80's. Ganja Plane? There is never a plane that leaves Jamaican airspace that the Jamacian Government oesn't have some knowledge of...please gimme a break!

Somebody no something.

Currently Investigators from the Narcotics Division of Transnational Crime, Operation Kingfish and the Civil Aviation Authority who are trying to determine the cause of the crash, suspect that it developed mechanical difficulties and crash-landed about 9:20 am.

Residents reported that the aircraft had been circling overhead from about 7:30 am. Some, who were early on the scene, said a vehicle was heard speeding away from the crash site minutes after the plane went down.

Probably the police dem a run.

Elephant Man- SAVED?

Wow, everybody getting the spirit. Check out the lyrics to Elephant Man's new CD.

Married Woman's Resource Guide

Recently (while reading the Jamaican Observer), I came across this article that was titled, "The married woman's resource guide." Taking an excerpt from this article, one of the topics stated, ".

the remote

http://www.scfamilylaw.com/uploads/image/engagement%20ring%201.jpg

You and your partner should talk about the television shows you love and if possible, work out a schedule so that you are not switching between channels when his favorite programme is airing. You should also try compromising and allow him to watch the finals of that football match. Next time the ball will be in your court as you will get a chance to watch the season finale of America's Next Top Model.

This seems like some chauvinistic mess. When does a woman ever have a chance to have the remote control.

Jamaican Athletes to Miss World Competition

I know that many of us, were saddened to hear about the 5 athletes who tested positively for methylxanthine at the national championships in June. Their names have not been made public.'

http://www.ytmap.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/polydrug.jpg

It is interesting because someone rumored that Usain Bolt was among the suspected athletes. I wonder if whoever started the rumor did not see the fact that it was stated, "none of whom won medals," had been added in the news coverage. I tell you any little bit of glory folks run to take it away.

Reuters News reported, "Based on what is going on, they will not be able to go to Berlin," Dr. Warren Blake, second vice president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA), told Reuters in an interview."

I think it is important they get a fair hearing and able to testify on their own behalf. I know that Jamaica has many herbs (no not ganja) that can imitate the affects of many drugs.

That is why Usain just better stick to eating his yam

*UPDATE*Caribworldnews

But the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has identified the five as Yohan Blake, Marvin Anderson, Sherry-Ann Brooks, Allodin Fothergill and Lansford Spence. Reports also indicate that the five athletes returned a positive result for Methylxanthine, a type of bronchodilator commonly used in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bronchodilators work by relaxing the airways, making it easier to breathe
