Dark Tints on Buses Causing Lewd Behavior by Students

Well one area in Jamaica is having their buses get a face-lift. In  Portmore, bus operators are now required to remove the dark tints from the buses,as well as, the loud audio systems. the police yesterday vowed to keep up the pressure on the operators to conform to legal public transport practices or face prosecution.

Head of the Traffic Police, Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, said the drive had just begun and would not end anytime soon.

"This is a drive to clean up the messy transport system," Lewis told the Observer. "What we have seen on the road is that the drivers and conductors are using them as mobile motels. They are showing videos and allowing young boys and conductors to have sex with minors under the guise of a lap dance."

It seems the students are using this "dark tinted," buses as a make-out session.

Double Muder in Jamaica Saddens a Community

Scores of curious onlookers gather near a house in the community of Long Wall in Stony Hill, St Andrew, yesterday where 43-year-old George 'Lloyd' Smielie and his son Winston, 17, were shot and killed by gunmen who firebombed their house yesterday morning. (Photo: Michael Gordon)

I was born near this area in Saint Andrew. On Tuesday gunmen yesterday morning torched a house in the community of Long Wall in Stony Hill, St Andrew then shot dead a father and his son as they tried to escape the inferno.

George Smielie, 43, and his son Winston, 17, were gunned down in a possible reprisal for the stabbing death of a youth in the community two months ago.

What makes this story so sad, is that a resident who witnessed the incident made this comment,""The man them, about five of them, surround the house and set it ablaze and then opened fire on the family members who tried to escape," said the spokesman, who described the attack as the worst to have taken place in the quiet community in recent times.

The boldness of these gunmen is a sad reflection of the fact that police patrol in certain areas of Jamaica is non-existent. I realize the fact that many of the law enforcement in Jamaica feel that they have to protect the tourist parts of the island, but what about the regular areas in the community?

Missing Children, a Big Concern in Jamaica

Missing children continue to be a big concern in Jamaica. People were overjoyed when last week, greeted the safe return of 10-year-old Annaleise Davis masked the fact that at least five other children - three girls and a boy that had been missing.

13-year-old Tiffany Green; 15-year-old Annekie Connikie; 16-year-old Reinhard Harrison; 13-year-old Yanique Esty and 14-year-old Kamoya Swaby's failure to return home last week has left family members and loved ones sick with worry

When The Sunday Gleaner contacted the police for an update on their search for three of the children, the matters did not appear to be priority issues on their agenda.
In all three cases, The Sunday Gleaner ascertained that the police had no idea whether the children were still missing or had returned home. When last seen, Tiffany was reportedly dressed in a blue blouse, blue tunic, blue socks and black shoes

The St Catherine police are investigating a case where an elderly man is alleged to have entered a young woman's house
, hid under her bed and later woke her from her sleep while posing naked.

THE STAR heard that the 62-year-old man, of Jeffery Town in the parish, was arrested on Thursday evening and may be charged over the weekend, after a report was made by the 21-year-old complainant.
The woman and the man are said to live at the same premises, a tenement yard in the community.
The woman reportedly left for work earlier in the day and returned home

Jamaica seeking to borrow 1.2 billion dollars

http://finance.indiainfo.com/2009/04/27/images/imf20logo.png

Jamaica's Finance Minister, Audley Shaw, left the island to attend the annual World Bank /IMF meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.

Mr Shaw is expected to have further discussions with the IMF deputy managing director on Jamaica’s application to the Fund.

Jamaica is seeking to borrow $1.2 billion in a stand by arrangement from the IMF.

Recently a five member team headed by the Central Bank,r returned to the island after holding talks at the IMF in Washington D.C.

Many of you might recall that back in the late 70's and 80's, when Jamaica was borrowing every 5 minutes from the IMF and the poor people were getting poorer. People could not make a move without the IMF's approval. It was ruthless, draconian and created massive hardship. I heard that they are much kinder and gentler now; I hope to God it is true.
